Michael Kim captured the FedEx Open de France on the DP World Tour just a week after tweaking his equipment setup. Fresh off a solid PGA TOUR season in the United States, where he narrowly missed the Tour Championship, the American played back-to-back events in Europe at the BMW PGA Championship and then in France. He missed the cut at Wentworth but kept faith with his new configuration.
Equipment Changes Leading to Victory
Before that start, he swapped his four-iron from a Titleist T200 to the newly released T250 and changed putters from an L.A.B. Golf DF3 to a TaylorMade Spider 5K-ZT, another zero-torque design. He also moved to an 11-degree Titleist GT2 driver after previously using the TSR3.
In France, the numbers backed up the changes. He finished inside the top ten for strokes gained tee to green, greens in regulation, scrambling, and strokes gained putting. He closed with a bogey-free 65, including birdies on two of his final three holes, to win by one shot.
Kim’s focus on refining his equipment has proven effective, demonstrating the significant impact that the right gear can have on performance. His victory highlights how professional golfers continually assess and adjust their tools to gain an edge on the course.
Here is the equipment Kim used during his victorious week in France:
- Driver: Titleist GT2 (11°)
- Fairway woods: TaylorMade Qi10 (3-wood and 7-wood)
- Four-iron: Titleist T250
- Irons (5–9): Titleist T100
- 46-degree wedge: Titleist T100
- 52-degree and 56-degree wedges: Titleist Vokey SM10
- 60-degree wedge: Titleist Vokey SM10-WW Proto
- Putter: TaylorMade Spider 5K-ZT
- Ball: Titleist Pro V1x (2023)
