Cam Fowler has agreed to a three-year, $18.3 million contract with the St. Louis Blues, the team announced Saturday. The deal begins in the 2026-27 season and carries an average annual value of $6.1 million.
The 33-year-old defenseman is entering the final season of the eight-year, $52 million contract he signed with the Anaheim Ducks in 2017 and would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency next summer. St. Louis acquired him from Anaheim on Dec. 14, 2024, in exchange for prospect Jeremie Biakabutuka and a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.
Fowler’s Impact on the Blues
Fowler made an immediate impact after the trade, posting 36 points (nine goals, 27 assists) in 51 regular-season games with the Blues and adding 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games. His performance has solidified his role as a key player for St. Louis as they look to compete for a championship.
Selected 12th overall by Anaheim in the 2010 NHL Draft, Fowler has accumulated 493 points (105 goals, 388 assists) in 1,042 regular-season games and 43 points (eight goals, 35 assists) in 69 postseason appearances. His experience and skill set make him an invaluable asset to the Blues’ defensive lineup.
Blues general manager Doug Armstrong stated that talks with Fowler’s camp ramped up around training camp. Both sides were aligned on the term and intent to keep the defenseman in St. Louis. He indicated they aimed to complete the agreement early rather than risk negotiations lingering into the season and toward free agency.
This contract not only reflects the confidence the Blues have in Fowler but also their commitment to building a strong team for the upcoming seasons. As the team continues to prepare for the next season, Fowler’s presence is expected to bolster their chances in the competitive NHL landscape.
