Bilka becomes the main partner for DBU Pigeraketten and promotes girls’ football

Bilka has become the main partner of DBU Pigeraketten, a Danish Football Association program designed to introduce young girls to football through play and community activities. This partnership aims to enhance the experience for young athletes while promoting inclusivity in sports.

Promoting Equality in Football

The move builds on the existing partnership between DBU and Salling Group. Both organizations are committed to promoting equality and equal opportunities in football, from entry-level initiatives like Pigeraketten to the women’s national team. This collaborative effort is vital in ensuring that girls have equal access to sports and physical activity.

Pigeraketten is run by DBU Grassroots and hosted by local clubs across the country. It specifically targets girls aged 5 to 9, offering a space-themed series of football stations that make the initial steps onto the pitch enjoyable and welcoming. Participation in these events is free, with each session lasting about two hours and accommodating up to 80 girls at a time.

Bilka describes the collaboration as a support mechanism for local initiatives that strengthen children’s communities and well-being. The goal is to encourage fun, exercise, and a sense of togetherness around football. DBU welcomes this backing, emphasizing that the program is designed to provide a safe and playful introduction to the sport, ultimately inspiring more girls to take up football.

Throughout the year, Bilka and its mascot, the wolf Billie, will make special appearances at selected Pigeraketten events. During these visits, water bottles will be distributed to all attendees, and every participant in the Pigeraketten program will receive a sweatband, reinforcing the sense of community and support.

More than 190 clubs have already registered to host Pigeraketten events in 2026, reflecting the growing interest in promoting girls’ football in Denmark. This initiative not only fosters athletic skills but also helps build lasting friendships and community ties among young girls.
