A prolific Danish forward with more than 200 career goals and over 500 senior appearances will be back in Brøndby colors when the new season begins in late July. Former Superliga top scorer and captain of AGF’s championship team, Patrick Mortensen, has signed a two-year contract with Brøndby IF.
Patrick Mortensen’s Return to Brøndby IF
The move marks a return to the club where he first broke through. Mortensen joined Brøndby as an 18-year-old from Fremad Amager in 2007 and made his Superliga debut there. Nineteen years later, he is set for a second debut.
Mortensen said he is excited to rejoin one of Denmark’s biggest clubs and believes the club’s history, work ethic, and strong sense of community match his own values. He aims to contribute both on and off the pitch, drawing on his experience and leadership to help strengthen the team culture.
A key part of his role will be mentoring Brøndby’s young strikers, including Jacob Ambæk. While he intends to score goals himself, Mortensen emphasized that helping the next generation succeed is equally important to him.
He outlined ambitions that extend beyond personal targets, focusing on building a strong training culture and achieving results together. He believes hard work will be essential if the team is to compete for trophies in the upcoming season.
Mortensen will meet his new teammates when the squad reconvenes later this month after the summer break, and fans are eager to see how his leadership and experience will influence the team’s performance. With his return, Brøndby IF is hopeful for a successful season ahead, aiming to reclaim their status as one of the top clubs in Danish football.
