F.C. Copenhagen Signs Josefine Svava: A Milestone for Women’s Football

F.C. Copenhagen has signed 15-year-old Josefine Svava to a talent contract, making her the first player from the club’s FCK Talent Girls program to formalize a deal. The agreement was announced on June 25, which is also her birthday.

Building a Pathway for Female Footballers

Club leadership described the signing as another step in building women’s football at F.C. Copenhagen and a signal that a clear pathway now exists for the academy’s top female prospects. They expect more players from the program to follow in Svava’s footsteps.

According to the club’s talent department, Svava is a dynamic, technically strong attacking midfielder with the qualities to decide matches through goals and assists. She currently plays on F.C. Copenhagen’s mixed girls-and-boys team, which the club considers a significant success.

Her recent development has included training and competitive minutes on that joint team, appearances with KB’s boys’ sides, and participation in the Danish FA’s shared talent development setup, along with twice-weekly sessions with the women’s senior squad. This level of training has equipped her with the skills necessary to excel in higher levels of competition.

Before joining F.C. Copenhagen, Svava honed her skills at B.93 and FC Nordsjælland. Her older sister, Sofie Svava, plays for Lyon and is part of the Denmark national team, which recently qualified for the Women’s World Cup in Brazil next year. This familial connection to elite football adds to the excitement surrounding Josefine’s potential.

With her signing, F.C. Copenhagen is not only investing in a promising talent but also setting a precedent for the future of women’s football within the club. As more young female players look to follow this path, the club is poised to become a leader in nurturing female football talent in Denmark.
