Nikolaj Jacobsen receives the Culture Minister’s Sports Award for handball achievements

Denmark’s men’s handball head coach, Nikolaj Jacobsen, has received this year’s Culture Minister’s Sports Prize for leading the national team to a period of unprecedented success.

Denmark now holds all three major crowns, standing as reigning world, European, and Olympic champions. Culture Minister Zenia Stampe presented the award during Denmark’s Championships Week in Herning. The other nominees for the 2026 prize were the national track cycling team in the 4 km team pursuit and Søren Vester and Niels Frandsen from Æ’ Brokhold in Østsalling IF. While they showcased remarkable talents and achievements, Jacobsen’s unparalleled success with the handball team set him apart as a deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
