HyFlyers GC concluded the 2025 season with a remarkable late surge, yet ultimately fell short of their overarching goals. Entering the LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship as the 10th seed, the team created an upset by defeating Fireballs GC in the quarterfinals. However, they were unable to advance further, losing to the eventual champions, Legion XIII, in the semifinals. The team wrapped up the week with a commendable fifth-place finish in the Tier 2 final, achieving a score of 14 under par. This impressive performance was spearheaded by Brendan Steele and Cameron Tringale, who both shot matching 65s, while Phil Mickelson and Andy Ogletree contributed with rounds of 68.
Season Highlights and Challenges for HyFlyers GC
Throughout the season, HyFlyers faced a series of challenges, only managing to reach the podium on one occasion. Two players ended the year outside the top 45 in the individual standings. Yet, Phil Mickelson emerged as the standout player for the team, delivering his best season in LIV Golf history by finishing 24th overall and securing a coveted spot in the Lock Zone. Mickelson achieved three top-10 finishes, notably placing third in Hong Kong, which marked his first podium appearance in LIV Golf. His remarkable play included a high-difficulty chip from the rough that became one of the most replayed moments of the season during the Virginia tournament.
Cameron Tringale finished the season in 28th place, just shy of the Lock Zone. He proved to be one of the league’s more consistent performers, scoring points in 10 out of 13 starts, although he did not manage to finish higher than a tie for fifth. Notably, Tringale maintained a perfect singles match play record, now standing at 7-0, with impressive victories over notable players such as Abraham Ancer and Tyrrell Hatton during the team championship.
Brendan Steele, on the other hand, ended the year ranked 45th, a drop from his previous two seasons where he consistently finished within the Lock Zone (19th in 2023 and 24th in 2024). His best performances this year were two ties for 15th in Virginia and Andalucía. Unfortunately, his struggles with cold putting ranked him 48th in strokes gained on the greens, and he will be looking to reset his performance in the upcoming season.
Andy Ogletree closed the season in 50th place, resulting in relegation for 2026. The former U.S. Amateur champion, who had earned his spot in LIV Golf after a stellar 2023 on the Asian Tour’s International Series, faced difficulties throughout the season due to a lingering wrist injury that had also hampered his debut in 2024. Despite a valiant effort to avoid relegation, he fell short during the Indianapolis tournament.
In Michigan, HyFlyers showcased their strength by sweeping the quarterfinals 3-0 against Fireballs GC. Mickelson narrowly edged David Puig on the 19th hole, with Tringale defeating Ancer 3 and 1, and the duo of Steele and Ogletree overcoming Sergio Garcia and Eugenio Chacarra Ballester 1 up. However, they were unable to replicate this success in the semifinals, falling 2-1 to Legion XIII.
In summary, the season’s key takeaways for HyFlyers include a spirited team finish in Michigan, Mickelson’s most complete LIV year to date, Tringale’s unbeaten singles run, Steele’s need for a putting reset, and Ogletree’s relegation following an injury-plagued season. As they gear up for the next season, the team will be looking to build on these lessons learned.
