Yaya Bojang leaves Odense Boldklub for FC Alverca in Portugal

Odense Boldklub has made headlines with the recent transfer of Gambian defender Yaya Bojang to Portuguese side FC Alverca, marking the conclusion of his three-year tenure in Denmark. This significant move highlights both the player’s growth and the club’s strategic decisions moving forward.

Bojang’s Journey at Odense Boldklub

Bojang joined OB as an 18-year-old, making his way through the club’s U19 academy before making a name for himself in the senior squad. Over the course of his time at the club, he made 36 appearances in total, with a standout performance last season where he played 27 matches across the 3F Superliga and the domestic cup. With just one year remaining on his contract, the decision to transfer seemed inevitable.

The sporting director of OB, Troels Bech, explained that despite extensive discussions, the club and Bojang could not reach an agreement on a contract extension. He noted that the timing of the transfer was less than ideal, as the club had preferred to secure new signings before allowing players to depart. Nonetheless, Bech praised Bojang for his development from an academy prospect to a key player in the first team.

Bojang, now 21 years old, also made his mark on the international stage as a Gambian international. Reflecting on his experiences in Odense, he expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the club, the staff, his teammates, and the supporters. He acknowledged that his time at OB played a crucial role in his growth as both a footballer and an individual. The young defender described his transfer as the start of a new chapter in his career, while also conveying his enduring affection for OB and wishing them continued success.

It’s important to note that Bojang’s recent trip to Gambia for personal reasons was not linked to the transfer. OB clarified that negotiations for the move had started prior to those events, and they had no additional comments on the matter.

During his tenure at Odense Boldklub, the club not only achieved promotion to the 3F Superliga but also benefited from Bojang’s impressive skills, which included his intensity, strong tackling, and effective clearances. OB has expressed its gratitude for Bojang’s contributions and wishes him well in his future endeavors in Portugal.
