Following a successful 2025–26 season, FC Copenhagen is making significant changes to its talent setup with new leadership and coaching appointments. This overhaul is designed to enhance the club’s performance and development pathways for young players.
Leadership Changes in FC Copenhagen’s Talent Department
Thomas Kjærbye has been named Head of Performance in the Talent Department. He joins the management group and reports to Morten Grahn. Kjærbye returns to the club where he was part of the first-team squad in 2000–01 and made three appearances. Most recently, he worked as a physical coach at SK Brann. His extensive experience in both domestic and international football is expected to bolster the club’s performance initiatives.
Kjærbye will oversee Performance and Medical, with performance coaches for the U14–U19 teams reporting directly to him. Gudrun Jonsdottír remains at the helm as Head of Physiotherapy, leading the Medical department, and will also report to Kjærbye. This collaboration is aimed at ensuring that players receive comprehensive support in both performance and health.
In another strategic move, Brian Jensen transitions from Head of Performance Services U14–U17 to Head of Psychology, Learning, and Wellbeing. In his new role, he will take charge of psychology, education and learning, and Player Care. Jensen remains a vital part of the leadership group and will continue to report to Morten Grahn, ensuring a cohesive approach to player development.
Additionally, U14 head coach Jakob Ginnerskov is departing for a position in the private sector. In his place, Jeppe Baltser Mathiasen has been appointed as the new U14 head coach. Mathiasen previously served as U15 Player Development Coach, a role that will now be filled by Gustav Palmann Jensen starting September 1. Palmann Jensen had held a similar position with the U14s, which will be taken over by Malthe Binderup.
The club has characterized these changes as a strengthening of its performance setup, emphasizing Kjærbye’s wealth of experience and expressing gratitude to Ginnerskov while showing confidence in the internal replacements. With these strategic appointments, FC Copenhagen aims to solidify its commitment to developing top-tier talent for the future.
