Silkeborg IF makes history with French defender Maël de Gevigney

Silkeborg IF has made a significant move in the transfer market by signing 26-year-old French defender Maël de Gevigney from Barnsley FC. This acquisition strengthens the club’s central defense as de Gevigney, known for his right-footed play, will don the No. 6 shirt and make history as the first French player in Silkeborg’s history.

Maël de Gevigney’s Journey to Silkeborg IF

Prior to joining Silkeborg, de Gevigney spent the last three seasons with Barnsley FC in England’s League One, where he made an impressive 128 appearances. His previous experience includes stints at Nîmes Olympique and FC Versailles 78 in France, showcasing his solid foundation in competitive football.

Silkeborg’s sporting director, Jesper Stüker, emphasized the club’s intent to find an experienced centre-back to enhance their defensive lineup. Stüker expressed confidence that de Gevigney fits the profile they were looking for. While the squad already boasts several options in central defense, the addition of de Gevigney is seen as a valuable opportunity to bring further experience to the team. However, he acknowledged that it may take some time for the new signing to achieve full match fitness.

De Gevigney has signed a three-year contract with Silkeborg IF, and he brings a strong presence to the field, describing himself as formidable in duels and comfortable with the ball at his feet. His willingness to take on a leadership role as one of the more seasoned players in the squad is a promising sign for the team moving forward.

As he embarks on this new chapter in his career, de Gevigney is eager to compete in the Danish league and embrace the challenges of starting life in a new country. His arrival is expected to make a significant impact on Silkeborg IF’s performance this season.
