The team announced on Wednesday that goaltender Frederik Andersen, forwards Matt Savoie and Mattias Janmark, and defenseman Alec Regula will not be participating in the initial sessions.
Injury Updates on Key Players
Both Andersen and Savoie are currently rehabbing injuries that they sustained during offseason training, while Janmark and Regula are recovering from prior medical procedures. The absence of these players will certainly be felt as the Oilers prepare for their season.
Training camp is set to commence on September 16, kicking off with physicals and medical evaluations. The Oilers’ first preseason game is scheduled for September 19 against the Winnipeg Jets, followed by their highly anticipated season opener against the Vancouver Canucks on September 29.
Frederik Andersen recently signed a one-year, $2.8 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers on July 1 after spending five successful seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes. The 36-year-old goaltender had an impressive performance last season, going 13-2 with a remarkable 1.89 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage, and three shutouts in just 16 games. His efforts were instrumental in helping the Hurricanes clinch the Stanley Cup, even though he faced a setback with a knee injury that sidelined him after Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights. Over his career, Andersen has amassed a regular-season record of 324-149-58, showcasing his talent as a top-tier goaltender in the NHL.
Mattias Janmark is another player to watch, although he has faced his share of challenges. After being placed on injured reserve on October 6, 2025, he struggled with an undisclosed injury throughout the preseason. Despite that, he managed to return and play 43 games, racking up eight points. With a total of 221 points in 680 NHL games, Janmark has proven his worth on multiple teams, including Dallas, Chicago, Vegas, and Edmonton.
Matt Savoie had a solid first full NHL season, producing 37 points with the Oilers, while Alec Regula contributed three assists in 29 games last season. The absence of these players during training camp will be a significant hurdle for the Oilers as they prepare for a competitive season ahead.
