FC Copenhagen is taking significant steps to enhance the matchday experience for blind and visually impaired supporters by piloting in-stadium audio description at Parken Stadium. This initiative is a collaboration between FC Copenhagen, the Danish Association of the Blind, and the specialist company Feel The Game.
Enhancing Accessibility for All Fans
The trial is set to occur during the next three home matches, with the objective of implementing a permanent service by October. Trained commentators will deliver detailed, real-time descriptions of the game, allowing fans who cannot visually follow the action to stay engaged with the tactics, key decisions, and pivotal moments on the pitch.
This initiative aims to enrich the overall matchday atmosphere, complementing the sounds and sense of community that many supporters already cherish at Parken. Feel The Game will play a crucial role in recruiting and training commentators specifically for this live description service, ensuring that the narrations are engaging and informative.
The Danish Association of the Blind is responsible for selecting participants for the trial and development phase, guaranteeing that the audio description service meets the needs of supporters from the very beginning. Diana Stentoft, the chair of the association, expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting that audio description fosters equal access for all fans. This service minimizes the reliance on sporadic radio coverage or nearby spectators for updates, allowing blind and severely visually impaired supporters to enjoy the game fully.
Following each of the three test matches, FC Copenhagen, the Danish Association of the Blind, participants, and commentators will come together to review the experiences and make necessary adjustments.
