FC Copenhagen vs Sønderjyske: Match Report

FC Copenhagen came from behind to beat Sønderjyske 3-1 at Parken on Monday night, taking control after a tense first half and closing out the Superliga match with a man advantage.

Match Highlights: FC Copenhagen Dominates in Second Half

Despite early pressure from the home side, Sønderjyske struck first. A through ball sent Seydi racing to the byline, and his cutback found Alexander Munksgaard, who finished to give the visitors the lead and register his first Superliga goal for the club.

FC Copenhagen responded and drew level when Mohamed Elyounoussi controlled a difficult pass on the edge of the box and guided a shot in off the post. Sønderjyske threatened again as Maxime Soulas drove forward, combined with Seydi, and fired narrowly wide, while Mohamed Cherif had a finish ruled out for offside.

Just before the interval, the hosts turned the match around. Keeping the ball alive near the area in stoppage time, FC Copenhagen capitalized when Mads Emil Madsen hammered in for a 2-1 halftime advantage.

Sønderjyske started the second half on the front foot. Sefer Emini’s outside-of-the-foot strike crashed off the crossbar, and shortly after, Diant Ramaj made a strong close-range save to preserve the lead. FC Copenhagen then extended their advantage as an initial shot was blocked by Flø, only for Elyounoussi to convert the rebound from close range for 3-1.

The visitors’ task grew harder when a ball played in behind Bjarnason led to an initial penalty call that was changed to a free kick just outside the box, but the Sønderjyske defender was still sent off. Down to ten men, Sønderjyske continued to push without finding a way back, and FC Copenhagen saw out the win.

This victory places FC Copenhagen in a strong position in the Superliga standings, showcasing their resilience and ability to perform under pressure. As they look ahead to upcoming fixtures, the team’s performance against Sønderjyske will surely boost their confidence.
