AC Horsens will dedicate its home game on Sunday, 20 September, to honoring Denmark’s former deployed personnel and their families. The club, together with Horsens Municipality, is once again taking part in Veteran Match, a nationwide sports initiative held in the wake of Denmark’s Flag Day.
Supporting Veterans Through Sports
Working with the National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark (DIF) and with support from the Danish Armed Forces, AC Horsens will welcome veterans and their relatives to the match against AGF as a tribute to their service. This event is not just about football; it represents a heartfelt appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who have served in the military.
Veteran Match runs from 18 September to 18 October 2026 and features 57 fixtures across football, handball, and ice hockey dedicated to recognizing those who served on international missions. The program spans various leagues, including the 3F Superliga and Betinia Liga in football, the Bambuni men’s and women’s handball leagues, and the Metal Liga in ice hockey.
During the Horsens match, the captain’s group will wear special shirts carrying the Veteran Match logo. These shirts will be auctioned during and after the game, with proceeds directed to DIF Soldaterprojekt’s Safe Zones and Family Zones. These initiatives are essential for training communities for veterans and police officers living with physical or psychological injuries, along with their families.
Organizers say the initiative aims to offer genuine recognition through the power of sport’s communities. Veteran Match is financed by Denmark’s Defence Agreement and is being held for the seventh time in 2026. This year’s event promises to be a remarkable occasion, bringing together fans, families, and veterans in a celebration of courage and service.
Join AC Horsens in making this event a memorable one by showing your support for our veterans. Together, we can honor their sacrifices and help build a stronger community for those who have served our country.
