Hvidovre Municipality is excited to announce the extension of its collaboration with the Danish Football Association (DBU), DBU Zealand, and DBU Copenhagen for another five years, extending the agreement through 2031. This decision comes on the heels of remarkable results in local football, particularly a significant increase in participation among girls and women.
Growth in Female Participation in Football
In recent years, the number of girls and women participating in the municipality’s football clubs has skyrocketed by over 60 percent. This partnership has fostered various new activities, such as football programs for children with special needs, the Hvidovre SkoleCup school tournament, the Get Movin’ initiative aimed at girls and women, and a social exercise group specifically designed for men over 60.
Local clubs play a vital role in this alliance, utilizing football as a tool to build inclusive communities, enhance volunteer involvement, and support learning through sport. The continuation of a local football network, connecting club boards with the municipality, will facilitate themed meetings, expert presentations, and workshops aimed at improving coordination and decision-making.
The new agreement also commits to hosting at least two youth national team matches in Hvidovre during the contract period, bringing even more attention to the municipality’s football scene. Officials in Hvidovre believe that this alliance aligns with their long-term strategies for sports and community life while supporting ongoing efforts to plan future sports facilities.
DBU representatives emphasize the crucial role local clubs and volunteers play in creating robust football communities and see this extension as an opportunity to engage even more residents in the sport.
A primary focus for the upcoming years will be the continued growth of girls’ and women’s football. Planned initiatives include coach education, the promotion of local role models, collaboration with schools and after-school programs, and ongoing support for the Get Movin’ initiative and other programs designed to boost female participation in football.
With this five-year extension, Hvidovre Municipality, alongside its partners, aims to cultivate vibrant club environments and ensure that an increasing number of children, young people, and adults can enjoy and participate in football.
