Former Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and ex-Tampa Bay Lightning teammates Darren Raddysh and Nick Paul are now wearing Toronto Maple Leafs colors, turning a fierce rivalry into a new alliance. The trio appeared at the Leafs & Legends Charity Golf Classic in Milton, Ontario, as part of a busy offseason under new leadership installed on May 3, with John Chayka taking over as general manager and Mats Sundin joining as senior executive adviser of hockey operations.
Transforming the Maple Leafs Roster
Over the past 16 weeks, Toronto has made more than two dozen changes on and off the ice ahead of Thursday’s first on-ice session of training camp. Among the most notable additions are Bobrovsky, Raddysh, and Paul, all central figures in recent Florida–Tampa Bay playoff battles.
Bobrovsky, 37, signed a three-year contract with the Maple Leafs on July 1 after backstopping Florida to Stanley Cup titles in 2024 and 2025. Across those championship runs, he went 32-15 with a 2.26 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage, and five shutouts in 47 playoff games. He has already settled on a home in the Toronto area and arrived last month to begin workouts and conditioning. Earlier this week, he thanked Panthers fans in a Russian-language Instagram post that featured a photo of him with the Stanley Cup at his South Florida residence, and he indicated he is eager to chase more wins in his new chapter.
Team officials have highlighted Bobrovsky’s professionalism and day-to-day approach since his arrival. He has also noted the appeal of joining one of hockey’s most storied franchises and the benefit of sharing a locker room with elite talent he once faced, including captain Auston Matthews. Familiar faces help, too: goaltender Anthony Stolarz, his former Panthers teammate during the 2023–24 title run, is in Toronto, as is Andy O’Brien, hired this offseason as the Maple Leafs’ vice president of sport performance after previously working with Bobrovsky in Florida.
Raddysh returned to southern Ontario through a June 19 sign-and-trade with Tampa Bay, agreeing to an eight-year deal that runs through his age-38 season. The Caledon, Ontario, native grew up attending Maple Leafs games with his father, Dwayne, who was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in May 2024 and died in March. Raddysh produced 70 points (22 goals, 48 assists) in 73 games for the Lightning last season.
Paul, a 31-year-old forward from Mississauga, Ontario, arrived on July 1 in a deal that sent goaltender Dennis Hildeby, a 2027 fourth-round pick, and a 2028 third-round pick to Tampa Bay. For both Paul and Raddysh, the move is a homecoming that has eased their transition to Toronto.
Together, the former rivals add playoff pedigree, familiarity with high-stakes rivalries, and depth to a Maple Leafs roster reshaped to contend as training camp opens. The changes signal a new era for the franchise, with hopes high for a successful season ahead.
