FC Fredericia will use Sunday’s home match against Vejle Boldklub at Monjasa Park to honor Denmark’s veterans as part of the nationwide Veteran Match coordinated with the Danish Sports Confederation. This event is a significant way to recognize and celebrate the contributions of veterans to society and the nation.
Veteran Match: A Tribute to Heroes
The tribute has strong local roots. Fredericia’s history as a fortress and garrison town dates back to 1650, and military life has long been part of the city’s identity. This connection makes the Veteran Match an especially poignant event for the community.
For the occasion, the club has reserved 40 seats that have already been filled by veterans and their families. Before kickoff, relatives of veterans will carry the official Veteran Match banner onto the pitch, symbolizing honor and remembrance. Additionally, two uniformed soldiers will accompany the teams as a gesture of respect during the event. The stadium will observe a joint round of applause for veterans and their families, reinforcing community support and gratitude.
As a unique highlight of the match, FC Fredericia’s captain will wear a special Veteran Match armband during the game to signify the club’s commitment to honoring those who have served. Furthermore, the goalkeeper’s jersey will feature the Veteran Match logo and will be auctioned off after the final whistle. Proceeds from these auctions will directly benefit the DIF Soldiers Project’s Safe Zones and Family Zones initiative, which provides safe sports and training communities for injured veterans and their families, promoting healing and integration.
Veteran Match was created by the DIF Soldiers Project and is set to be marked at 57 games across Danish football, handball, and ice hockey in 2026, showcasing the widespread support for veterans throughout the country.
