Silkeborg IF is set to honor those who have served in international missions by dedicating Sunday’s home match against AC Horsens at JYSK Park to the nationwide Veteran Match initiative. This significant event is organized in collaboration with the Danish Sports Confederation’s DIF Soldiers Project, with support from the Danish Armed Forces. The day aims to pay tribute not only to the veterans but also to their families, recognizing the sacrifices made by these individuals.
Event Highlights and Activities
As part of the event, attendees can look forward to a vibrant fanzone stand where fans can participate in a competition to win the match ball. In addition, a pre-match ceremony will take place, featuring flags and a heartfelt tribute address, setting a respectful tone for the day. Players from Silkeborg will don special shirts emblazoned with the Veteran Match logo, and the team captain will wear a unique armband to signify the day’s importance. After the match, the shirts worn by the players will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going directly to the DIF Soldiers Project’s Safe Zones and Family Zones. These initiatives provide essential training communities for veterans, police officers, and their families who are dealing with physical or psychological injuries.
This year, a total of 57 fixtures across various sports in Denmark are being dedicated to the Veteran Match initiative, which includes matches in the football’s 3F Superliga and NordicBet Liga, as well as handball’s Bambuni men’s and women’s leagues and ice hockey’s Metal Ligaen.
For those who have served, the event includes an opportunity for former veterans and their close relatives to gain free admission to the Silkeborg–Horsens match through a dedicated ticket portal, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, this match marks the highly anticipated return of the 3F Superliga following the international break, making it an exciting event for both players and fans alike. Join us in celebrating our heroes and supporting this noble cause on Sunday!
