AGF criticizes disciplinary body for its handling of racism allegations

AGF has expressed strong criticism regarding the recent decision made by the Danish FA’s disciplinary body to dismiss a case concerning alleged racist abuse that occurred during the club’s home match against Silkeborg IF on September 5, 2026. The offensive remarks were reportedly directed at AGF’s Mikael Anderson by fans in the away section at Ceres Park Vejlby.

On October 8, AGF publicly announced that they had been informed the case would not proceed. The club described the outcome as unsatisfactory and has since reached out to the Danish FA and its disciplinary panel to seek a detailed explanation regarding this decision.

AGF’s Commitment to Combating Racism

According to AGF, their report was based on testimony from two witnesses present during the incident—a player and a club videographer—who both confirmed that they heard the racist remark. In addition, AGF submitted a video from a fan outlet that captures demeaning and discriminatory chants from the away section. The club is requesting clarification from the disciplinary body on how this evidence was evaluated and why it was deemed insufficient to warrant further action.

AGF highlighted its history of being sanctioned for similar spectator behavior in the past and emphasized its commitment to identifying those responsible. The club firmly believes that addressing racist and other discriminatory chants is a shared responsibility that encompasses clubs, the league association, and disciplinary authorities, necessitating consistent and decisive action.

In their correspondence with the Danish FA, AGF has sought clarification on the specific aspects that led to the evidence being considered inadequate. They have also requested information on how the witness statements were evaluated and what differences in evidence contributed to a different outcome compared to a previous case in which AGF faced penalties. Importantly, AGF stated that its goal is not to impose financial punishment on Silkeborg but rather to ensure that such incidents are dealt with a strict zero-tolerance policy based on clear, consistent, and transparent principles.

As the conversation surrounding racism in sports continues, AGF’s proactive stance highlights the importance of accountability and the need for robust measures to combat discrimination in football.
