F.C. Copenhagen is set to honor Danish veterans and their families during this year’s Veteran Match on Sunday, October 18. This special tribute will occur before the 6 p.m. home game against AGF, where 100 invited veterans will be recognized on the pitch. With over 40,000 veterans in Denmark, many of them and their families continue to deal with the lasting impacts of overseas deployments.
Celebrating Veterans Through Tradition
F.C. Copenhagen has played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Veteran Match, which has evolved into a cherished annual tradition within the 3F Superliga, as well as in the top handball and ice hockey leagues. This event not only celebrates the bravery of veterans but also fosters community support and awareness about their sacrifices.
As part of the tribute, the team will don white shirts emblazoned with the Veteran Match logo. The design features colors representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Danish flag, arranged in a four-leaf clover pattern to symbolize hope for the future. This visual representation serves as a reminder of the unity and respect shared among the military and civilian communities.
Post-game, fans will have the opportunity to participate in a meaningful auction of five match-worn shirts, with all proceeds benefiting DIF Soldaterprojekt’s Safe Zones. These supportive training communities are designed for former deployed personnel who face physical or psychological challenges. They provide group exercise in a safe environment and are open to anyone seeking a more active lifestyle, with activities tailored to individual needs.
The match against AGF is anticipated to attract a large crowd, with more than 32,000 seats already booked. This turnout not only reflects the popularity of F.C. Copenhagen but also underscores the community’s commitment to honoring those who have served in the military. By coming together for this event, fans can show their support and appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans.
