Alatau Tennis Complex Opened in Almaty: New Center to Promote Tennis in Kazakhstan

Top players Karen Khachanov, Daniil Medvedev, and Flavio Cobolli joined Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko and Beibit Zhukayev to open the Alatau International Tennis Complex in Almaty. The event drew a large turnout of fans and junior players, featured a local band performance, and included a tree-planting ceremony by the athletes.

Facilities and Community Impact

The complex sits in Almaty’s expanding Alatau district and is built to support both elite training and community tennis. It offers 14 courts across indoor and outdoor hard and clay surfaces, along with a gym, medical center, cafe, and conference hall. The venue can accommodate up to 500 athletes each day and meets international standards for ITF and ATF-level events.

Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy and Kazakhstan Tennis Federation (KTF) President Bulat Utemuratov attended the launch. City officials described the center as a significant addition for the district, intended to develop young players and host national and international competitions, while enhancing Almaty’s standing in global sport.

Constructed with support from the KTF, the Alatau facility is the 39th tennis venue built in Kazakhstan since 2007. The federation reports it has overseen the development of 291 courts nationwide, backed by more than $200 million in private investment over the past 18 years.

Beyond professional training, the complex will run free programs for children from low-income families and offer discounts for large families and pensioners. It is fully accessible for people with limited mobility, and all training will be led by certified coaches.

The KTF said continued investment in facilities is aimed at making tennis more accessible. According to the federation, more than 30,000 children in Kazakhstan now play regularly, and expanding participation alongside top-level development remains a core goal.

The opening of the Alatau International Tennis Complex underscores Kazakhstan’s broader push in world tennis, pairing elite pathways with opportunities for wider involvement across society. With a focus on community and accessibility, the complex is set to become a hub for tennis enthusiasts and aspiring athletes alike.
