Esbjerg fB has made a significant move by appointing 33-year-old Nicolaj Køhlert as the new project and sporting manager for women’s and girls’ football. Scheduled to begin his full-time role on April 1, Køhlert will collaborate with the current staff to foster the development of the department.
Nicolaj Køhlert: A Return to Roots
Køhlert is returning to familiar territory, having progressed through EfB’s boys’ academy before making a move to Liverpool FC. His diverse playing career includes tenures with prestigious clubs such as Rangers FC and Silkeborg IF, which have provided him with valuable insights across both youth and senior football levels. After hanging up his boots, he transitioned into the professional world, working at Blue Water Shipping and, more recently, with the South and Southern Jutland Police. This unique combination of football expertise and professional experience is highly valued by the club as it aims to enhance its women’s and girls’ football setup.
The leadership at Esbjerg fB has highlighted that Køhlert’s blend of football knowledge and outside-the-sport experience was pivotal in their decision-making process. This aligns seamlessly with the club’s ambitions to accelerate progress not only in Esbjerg but also throughout the broader southwest Jutland region.
Køhlert himself has expressed great enthusiasm about returning to EfB, especially in light of the rapid growth of the women’s game. He is eager to push the project forward and has plans to get started promptly in April. His commitment to working closely with his colleagues aims to elevate the program to unprecedented heights.
With Nicolaj Køhlert at the helm, Esbjerg fB is set to embark on an exciting journey in women’s and girls’ football, promising a bright future for aspiring players in the region.
