Esbjerg fB will use its next home match to honor military veterans and their families as part of this season’s Veteran Match. The game against Aarhus Fremad is scheduled for Sunday, 28 September at 15:00 at Blue Water Arena. The initiative is run in cooperation with Denmark’s Sports Confederation and aims to highlight the contributions of former deployed soldiers and the people close to them.
Supporting Veterans Through Sport
The club is again taking part in a nationwide campaign held across the 3F Superliga, Betinia Ligaen, Metal Ligaen, and Bambuni Herreligaen. The effort recognizes men and women who served under the Danish flag abroad, many of whom faced significant challenges upon returning home.
According to chief executive Allan L. Agerholm, the club stands with those who have served Denmark and views sport as a way to build community and recognition. Esbjerg fB plans to welcome veterans and their relatives at the match and ensure a positive experience at the stadium.
As in previous seasons, the team will wear shirts featuring the Veteran Match logo. After the game, the shirts worn by Jacob Buus and Andreas Lausen will be auctioned, with all proceeds going to the DIF Soldaterprojekt’s Family Zones. These are safe sports communities where veterans and their families train with peers and have a space to discuss the challenges linked to deployment.
Veteran Match is organized by Danmarks Idrætsforbund in collaboration with league associations, clubs, municipalities, and local veteran organizations. This initiative is supported by the Grundfos Foundation (Poul Due Jensens Fond) and funding from the Danish defence agreement.
Kickoff is Sunday, 28 September at 15:00 at Blue Water Arena. This event aims to foster awareness and appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans, making it a must-see for the community.
