Felix Auger-Aliassime looks ahead to the ATP Finals after a strong US Open performance

Felix Auger-Aliassime’s resurgent run at the US Open ended in the semi-finals on Friday night at Flushing Meadows, where World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner won 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The 25-year-old Canadian arrived in the last four on the back of standout victories over third seed Alexander Zverev, 15th seed Andrey Rublev and eighth seed Alex de Minaur. The performance marked a sharp turnaround from last month’s heavy defeat to Sinner in Cincinnati, where he won only two games.

Auger-Aliassime’s Performance Analysis

Auger-Aliassime responded well after dropping the opening set, surrendering just one point on serve in a dominant second set. He matched Sinner from the baseline for long stretches and was effective moving forward, winning 22 of 31 points at the net. However, missed chances proved costly: he converted only one of 10 break points and could not capitalize on five early opportunities to take the lead in the third set.

The seven-time ATP Tour titlist assessed the tournament as a step forward across his game, citing improved serving, forehand, movement, and backhand, while placing particular emphasis on a sharper mentality and belief under pressure. He noted that even when his level dipped during the quarter-finals, he stayed the course and trusted he would raise it again.

His success in New York lifted him eight spots to 10th in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, keeping him in contention to qualify for November’s Nitto ATP Finals for a second time. Auger-Aliassime remained cautious about labeling himself a clear rival to Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, saying he felt competitive and able to trade blows for stretches but preferred to let upcoming results define how close he is to the very top.

Off the court, Auger-Aliassime now turns to his wedding later this month to Nina Ghaibi in Marrakesh, Morocco. He said final preparations, including his suit, are still to be settled, and he has not yet decided whether he will play in the Davis Cup, scheduled just days before the ceremony. With a promising future ahead, fans are eager to see how he balances his personal life with his professional aspirations.
