ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The WTA announced on Monday that Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens have officially qualified for the prestigious WTA Finals in Riyadh, marking them as the fourth doubles team confirmed for this highly anticipated season-ending event.
Exciting Lineup for the WTA Finals
The duo, who remain unbeaten champions from the 2022 edition, will compete alongside other elite teams including Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend, Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, and Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe. The tournament is set to take place from November 1–8, 2025, and promises to showcase some of the best talent in women’s tennis.
This upcoming appearance will be Kudermetova and Mertens’ second time competing together in the Finals, while Mertens herself will be making her seventh consecutive appearance overall. Their qualification was made possible by a stellar season that included three finals. Notably, they secured a title at Wimbledon, reached back-to-back WTA 1000 finals in both Madrid and Rome, and made semifinal runs at the Libema Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the US Open.
The WTA Finals feature the top eight singles players and doubles teams based on the Race standings. Additionally, a Grand Slam titleholder ranked between No. 8 and No. 20 is eligible for the last berth. The competition will commence with round-robin play, culminating in exciting matches where the singles champion will be awarded the Billie Jean King Trophy and the doubles champions will receive the prestigious Martina Navratilova Trophy.
As we approach the WTA Finals, tennis fans can look forward to thrilling matches and exceptional performances from some of the world’s best players. Keep an eye on Kudermetova and Mertens as they aim to defend their title and solidify their legacy in women’s doubles tennis.
