Neestrup: The chances are 50/50 in a tough away match against Qarabag FK

FC Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup described Wednesday’s away meeting with Qarabag FK in the Champions League league phase as a roughly even contest, noting the venue gives neither side a clear edge. He said the team has traveled with the intention of winning and at minimum wants to return with a point.

Preparation for the Match

Neestrup highlighted the path both clubs took to reach this stage, pointing out that Qarabag, like Copenhagen, came through six qualifying matches. He noted Qarabag’s threat in attack, their strength in transition play, and their extensive European experience in recent seasons, particularly in the Europa League. He also emphasized that Qarabag earned their place by eliminating Ferencvaros in the playoff round.

Copenhagen has adjusted its usual pre-match routine for this trip. Instead of training at home the day before and flying later, the squad departed earlier in the week to work out at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium. The staff judged this the best preparation because of the longer travel and a time difference, choosing to arrive Monday and return on Thursday afternoon. The schedule still leaves two days back in Copenhagen to prepare for Sunday’s league match against FC Midtjylland at Parken.

After training on the match pitch, the staff assessed the surface as below the standard they are used to at Parken. The team intends to account for the conditions but will not treat them as an excuse. This determination showcases FC Copenhagen’s commitment to performing at their best, regardless of external circumstances. As they gear up for this crucial match, Neestrup’s strategic planning and the team’s adaptability will be key factors in their pursuit of success in the Champions League.
