Rory McIlroy displays the Masters Green Jacket for the first time in Ireland at the Amgen Irish Open

Rory McIlroy gave Irish fans a close-up look at his Masters Green Jacket during a Q&A after Thursday’s first round of the 2025 Amgen Irish Open at The K Club. He appeared on stage in the jacket for the first time in public in Ireland, drawing cheers despite heavy rain that sent showers across the crowd.

McIlroy won the Masters in April at Augusta to complete the career Grand Slam. His other major titles are the 2011 U.S. Open, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championships, and The Open in 2014. He secured the Masters by defeating Justin Rose in a playoff and later described the finish as tense and emotional.

McIlroy’s Journey and Future Aspirations

He praised his caddie, Harry Diamond, highlighting their long friendship and the significance of sharing the achievement together. McIlroy also urged patience regarding his search for a first win since Augusta, stating he wants to chase the Grand Slam a second time, including a goal to defend the Masters next year.

Looking ahead to the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, McIlroy noted that winning away remains one of golf’s toughest tasks. Having been part of Europe’s dramatic road victory at Medinah in 2012, he emphasized that the first team to reverse the current trend of home wins would leave a lasting mark.

Earlier in the day, McIlroy opened with a 71, thrilling spectators with several sharp escapes from bunkers. Supporters responded with encouragement throughout the session, showcasing the strong support he enjoys from his home fans.

This year marks roughly 20 years since his first Irish Open appearance. McIlroy is aiming to repeat his 2016 triumph at The K Club, recalling a head-to-head battle with Russell Knox that turned with a key birdie on the 16th. He said that Irish Open win remains especially meaningful to his family and hopes to contend again this week.
