Swiatek advances to the fourth round at the China Open after Osorio's injury withdrawal

Top seed Iga Swiatek moved into the China Open fourth round on Monday after Camila Osorio retired with an abdominal injury. Swiatek had taken the first set 6-0 in Beijing before the match ended early in the second.

Match Highlights and Future Matchup

The scoreline hid how tight the opening set was, with five of the six games stretching to deuce. Osorio took a medical timeout at 0-5, then stopped shortly into the second set after falling behind 0-40 in the first game.

The 6-0 opener was Swiatek’s 17th such set of the 2025 season, the most on tour. Ekaterina Alexandrova is next with seven sets won by a similar score. Swiatek expressed sympathy for Osorio and said she felt she executed well in the first set, imposing her game before the retirement.

Next up, Swiatek will face No. 16 seed Emma Navarro in the last 16. Navarro also advanced via retirement when Roland Garros semifinalist Lois Boisson stopped with a left thigh injury while trailing 6-2, 1-0. Swiatek has won both previous meetings with Navarro, dropping only five games across those matches, including their Australian Open quarterfinal in January.

As the tournament progresses, fans are eager to see if Swiatek can maintain her dominant form and continue her pursuit of the title. Her impressive performance so far has solidified her status as a top contender in the China Open, and her upcoming match against Navarro promises to be an exciting encounter. Stay tuned for more updates on the tournament and Swiatek’s journey!
