Utah Mammoth unveils new mascot, Tusky, before home opener against the Calgary Flames

The Utah Mammoth introduced their new mascot Wednesday at the Delta Center, where a 6-foot-5 mammoth in team colors emerged from a block of ice before the home opener against the Calgary Flames.

Meet Tusky: The New Face of the Utah Mammoth

Named Tusky, the character features Mountain Blue fur, a dark blue mohawk, and salt-white tusks. The team says he skates well, shoots left, and will wear No. 00. Team owners Ryan and Ashley Smith expressed excitement about the mascot, stating that the name ties into the franchise’s rallying cry and that Tusky will appear regularly at games and throughout the community, including visits to schools and hospitals.

The unveiling of Tusky is another significant step in the launch of Utah’s NHL franchise, which was established on April 18, 2024. With a shortened timeline for branding, the club used the temporary Utah Hockey Club name last season while developing a permanent identity. The Mammoth name was announced on May 7 after four rounds of fan surveys that drew more than 850,000 votes, with Mammoth emerging as the clear favorite. The choice nods to an animal that lived in the region during the last Ice Age, making it a fitting representation for the team.

Smith Entertainment Group began planning a mascot during the branding process and, after the name announcement on May 7, collaborated with a local company to bring Tusky to life. The team describes Tusky as powerful and energetic with a mischievous streak, embodying the spirit of the Mammoth. In addition to his appearances at team and community events, Tusky will maintain a vibrant social media presence, engaging fans and building a strong connection with the community.

As the Utah Mammoth gears up for an exciting season, Tusky is set to become a beloved figure among fans, further enhancing the team’s identity and outreach initiatives. His presence is anticipated to energize the crowd at games and inspire young fans throughout the state, creating lasting memories for everyone involved.
