file-387

Seventeen-year-old Moise Kouame’s breakthrough run at Roland Garros ended on Saturday with a third-round defeat to Alejandro Tabilo, but the last Frenchman left in the draw departed Paris encouraged by what he achieved.

The teenager fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(9) in a tight, three-hour, 40-minute contest on a full Court Suzanne-Lenglen. He viewed the match as a narrow miss and said the week gave him valuable insights that will help his development.

Historic Achievement at Roland Garros

Kouame made history on home soil as the youngest man to reach the third round of a Grand Slam since Rafael Nadal in 2003. He also surged 105 places to No. 213 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.

Competing in a Grand Slam main draw for the first time, Kouame opened with a win over 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic, then outlasted Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in five sets to reach the last 32. His performance has drawn attention and admiration, marking him as a rising star in the world of tennis.

He credited mental resilience as a key part of his game, noting that he refuses to give up and often finds ways to turn matches around. He felt he was close to doing so again against Tabilo, showcasing his competitive spirit and determination.

Looking ahead, Kouame said he wants to sharpen several areas, pointing to moments when his serve and forehand let him down and to errors at important points. He also intends to strengthen his backhand despite producing many high-quality shots during the tournament. This self-awareness is crucial for his growth as an athlete.

Kouame sits fourth in the PIF ATP Live Next Gen Race and is targeting a first appearance at the Next Gen ATP Finals later this season. With his impressive trajectory and newfound experience, fans are excited to see how he will evolve in the coming months.
