Henrik Dalsgaard will retire from professional football at the end of June, bringing a 17-year senior career to a close. The 36-year-old defender leaves the game after 570 senior appearances, including 66 matches for AGF.

Dalsgaard’s Remarkable Career Highlights

His final season ended on a high. Dalsgaard scored twice in decisive Superliga fixtures down the stretch, was named Player of the Month in both April and May, and helped AGF secure the Danish championship, lifting the trophy at Ceres Park Vejlby on May 17. He featured in all 32 league games during the title campaign.

Dalsgaard made his top-flight debut in 2009 with AaB, where his first appearance came as a substitute against AGF. His club career later took him to Zulte Waregem, Brentford FC, FC Midtjylland, and finally AGF, where he arrived in the summer of 2024 after winning the Danish title with Midtjylland. Two years later, he repeated the feat in Aarhus.

Across his career, he became one of the few players to win the Danish championship with three different clubs: AaB, FC Midtjylland, and AGF. He also won domestic cup titles in both Denmark and Belgium and earned promotion to the Premier League with Brentford.

Internationally, Dalsgaard collected 27 caps for Denmark, scored once, and took part in the 2018 World Cup.

He decided to stop playing after assessing his age, the increasing demands of elite competition, family considerations, and AGF’s busy schedule ahead, which includes European football in the autumn. AGF’s football director, Carsten V. Jensen, credited Dalsgaard’s leadership, work ethic, and influence on the title win and wished him well in life after football.

Dalsgaard was born on July 27, 1989, and began in youth and lower-league football with Møldrup/Tostrup IF before turning professional. His legacy in Danish football will be remembered for years to come, and he leaves behind a significant impact on every club he represented.
