AGF’s women celebrated a remarkable achievement by securing their first A-Liga win of the season with an impressive 4-2 victory over FC Copenhagen at Ceres Park Vejlby. This match showcased their determination and skill, as they built a commanding four-goal lead before the visitors managed to respond late in the game.
Match Highlights and Key Performances
The away side, FC Copenhagen, created the first significant chance of the match, drawing a strong save from goalkeeper Marie Gade, who demonstrated her importance to AGF’s defense. However, it was AGF who quickly took control of the game. Just 15 minutes in, Mie Lerche was fouled in the penalty area, leading to Cecilie Johansen stepping up to convert the penalty, putting AGF ahead 1-0.
Seven minutes later, Lærke Tingleff intercepted the ball high up the pitch and skillfully guided a shot from the edge of the area into the net, doubling the lead to 2-0. Mathilde Braithwaite nearly added to the tally before halftime but was thwarted in a one-on-one situation, leaving AGF with a two-goal advantage at the break.
In the second half, AGF continued their offensive onslaught. On the 57th minute, Sofie Jørgensen capitalized on a driven cross from Braithwaite, finishing expertly to make it 3-0. Just three minutes later, Johansen struck again with a stunning long-range free kick that curled into the far corner, extending AGF’s lead to 4-0.
FC Copenhagen managed to find the net in the 77th minute through Sille Fuhlendorff after AGF struggled to clear an incoming cross. Frederikke Benfeldt then added another goal in stoppage time to narrow the score to 4-2. Despite this late surge from the visitors, AGF held on to secure the three vital points.
Looking ahead, AGF will shift their focus to the cup, with a match against Silkeborg Q scheduled for Wednesday evening. Following that, they will return to A-Liga action at home against FC Nordsjælland on September 22, aiming to build on this critical victory.
