Ben Shelton boosted his chances of reaching the Nitto ATP Finals, rising three places to third in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin after making his first Grand Slam final at the US Open.
The 23-year-old American was aiming to become the first U.S. man to win a major since 2003 but fell to Alexander Zverev, who claimed his second Grand Slam title. Even so, Shelton’s run included a quarter-final victory over Carlos Alcaraz, his first win against a Top-3 opponent, and leaves him well placed to qualify for the season-ending event for a second straight year after debuting in 2025.
US Open Highlights and Player Standings
Alcaraz returned to competition at the US Open after more than four months out and lost to Shelton in the last eight. The Spaniard is targeting a fourth appearance in Turin, where his best result is a runner-up finish in 2025.
Frances Tiafoe also made a move, climbing to sixth in the Live Race after advancing to his third major semi-final in New York, where he was beaten by Shelton. Tiafoe’s season record stands at 42 wins and 17 losses as he chases a first trip to the year-end championships.
Jannik Sinner and Zverev have already secured their places at the Nitto ATP Finals, scheduled for 15-22 November at the Inalpi Arena in Turin. The competition is heating up as players vie for the remaining qualifying spots.
