Brøndby IF appoints Mathias Zangenberg as the new fitness coach

When Brøndby IF’s players return from their break on Friday, the first session will focus on fitness testing. Ahead of that, the club has added a new specialist to its physical performance staff.

Introducing Mathias Zangenberg: The New Physical Coach

Mathias Zangenberg, 47, has joined as physical coach for the Superliga squad. He will lead work on players’ physical development and performance alongside Bennet Kästner.

Zangenberg previously served as Head of Physical Performance at FC Nordsjælland and AGF, and most recently held the same role at South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, which won the African Champions League a few weeks ago. He returns to Denmark after roughly three years in South Africa.

The club stated that this hire brings extensive experience, leadership, and specialized knowledge from top-level environments in Denmark and abroad. This addition complements the current staff and strengthens support around the first team. Brøndby considers his approach aligned with the club’s direction and expects him to help create strong conditions for player development and team performance.

Zangenberg has expressed eagerness to work under new head coach Thomas Nørgaard. He mentioned that he grew up supporting Brøndby, knows the club’s history and hard-working, high-intensity style, and aims to apply lessons from roles that included linking the academy and first team at FC Nordsjælland, contributing within a large-club setting at AGF, and operating in a title-focused environment at Mamelodi Sundowns.

His first day at the club is today, and fans are optimistic about the positive impact he will have on the team’s performance as they prepare for the upcoming season.
