Brøndby IF is set to honor Danish veterans in a heartfelt tribute on Sunday evening. Collaborating with the Danish Sports Confederation (DIF) and backed by the Danish Armed Forces, this initiative is part of the nationwide Veteran Match program. The club has graciously invited 100 veterans to attend the home game against Lyngby BK at the iconic Brøndby Stadium.
A Unique Auction for a Noble Cause
Following the match, fans will have the opportunity to participate in a special auction featuring five home shirts adorned with a unique Veteran Match logo. Each shirt will be signed by the respective player, adding a personal touch to each item. This exciting auction is scheduled to conclude on October 17 at 7:00 p.m. All proceeds from the auction will be directed towards the DIF Soldiers Project initiatives, which include Safe Zones and Family Zones. These programs aim to create supportive training environments for veterans, police officers, and prison officers who have experienced physical or psychological injuries, along with their families.
On this significant day, the captain of Brøndby IF will wear an armband that showcases the Veteran Match emblem. The emblem’s colors represent the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Danish flag, all intertwined in a four-leaf clover design that symbolizes hope for a brighter future.
The Veteran Match initiative for 2026 spans 57 games across the nation, running from September 18 to October 18. This year’s program is active in various leagues, including the 3F Superliga, Betinia Liga, Bambuni Kvindeligaen, Bambuni Herreligaen, and Metal Ligaen, featuring participation from most of the top-tier handball clubs. Veterans are entitled to free tickets on a first-come, first-served basis and are encouraged to bring their family members along to share in this special experience.
The overarching goal of the Veteran Match initiative is to provide genuine recognition to veterans and their families through the unifying power of sports. As the 2026 edition marks the seventh year of this commendable initiative, it continues to be funded by the Danish Defence Agreement, ensuring that our veterans receive the acknowledgment and support they rightfully deserve.
