F.C. Copenhagen has moved into the next phase of pre-season with an eight-day training camp in Austria after opening preparations at the club’s Number 10 facility. Head coach Bo Svensson outlined a plan that shifts from laying basic groundwork to more tactical work and higher intensity.
Training Schedule and Objectives
The schedule in Austria calls for three hard training days, a rest day, and three more sessions before a friendly against Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday. Svensson wants consistently high standards from session to session and expects the team’s play to look intense in all phases, with and without the ball and during transitions. Set pieces are also a focus, with specialist work led by Kristoffer Wichmann.
Reflecting on his 10 matches in charge during the spring, Svensson assessed that the team’s possession play was strong, particularly against opponents who defended deep. He identified improvement areas in playing out under high pressure, in the high press itself, and in overall defensive work. He emphasized the need for a shared understanding of on-field decisions and more dynamic reactions immediately after losing or winning the ball.
The camp is also intended to build off-field relationships within the squad. Some players are absent due to World Cup duty or vacations, while a few injured but important squad members are present. Several young players are in the group to stake their claim, and the club aims to strengthen the squad during the window. The 30 players in Austria may not be the exact group on September 1, but everyone is expected to contribute to the work over the next eight to nine days.
As F.C. Copenhagen continues its preparations, the focus on tactical development and team cohesion will be critical for a successful upcoming season. The training camp not only enhances skills on the pitch but also fosters camaraderie among players, which is essential for achieving shared goals.
