FIDE’s Chess in Education Commission is set to enhance its training program for summer 2026, providing a diverse array of online and in-person courses aimed at bolstering the global community of educators who incorporate chess as an educational tool. This initiative not only fosters the growth of chess education but also promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.

Courses Offered in Summer 2026

The flagship course, Preparation of Lecturers, is designed for specialists who aspire to become Lead School Instructors. This program focuses on equipping these educators with the necessary skills to train teachers and expand the reach of educational chess, thereby building capacity within the community.

Another integral part of the program is the Preparation of Teachers course, which culminates in the FIDE title of School Instructor. Spanning three days (15 hours), this course offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes innovative teaching methods, the effective use of digital resources, and practical strategies for integrating chess into the classroom to enhance student learning.

Participants who complete these courses benefit from lifetime access to invaluable resources. Graduates receive access to the Opening Master Premium database, which contains over 10 million official over-the-board human games, as well as the Chesspertise platform. This platform consolidates search, analysis, training, and coaching tools into one user-friendly interface. Additionally, graduates will obtain the FIDE Teachers Chess Curriculum, ensuring they have a long-term resource to support their teaching endeavors.

The schedule for online Preparation of Teachers courses during summer 2026 is as follows:

  • 38th course for the School Instructor title: June 12–14
  • First women-only course in French: July 3–5
  • 39th course for the School Instructor title: July 17–19
  • First women-only course in Spanish: August 7–9
  • 40th course for the School Instructor title: August 14–16

This expansion reflects FIDE’s commitment to promoting chess as a vital educational tool worldwide, encouraging educators to harness the power of chess to foster learning and develop essential life skills in students.
