Assistant coach Henrik Hansen is leaving Brøndby IF after nearly two years to take over as head coach of Denmark’s U20 national team under the Danish Football Association.
Hansen, 46, joined Brøndby in the summer of 2024 as part of the Superliga club’s first‑team staff and will now move into a role working with the country’s top youth prospects.
Brøndby IF Acknowledges Hansen’s Contributions
Brøndby’s newly appointed football director, Julius Ohnesorge, thanked Hansen for his work, emphasizing his professionalism, commitment, and positive influence on player development and the first‑team environment. The club also acknowledged the appeal of the national team position and wished him success in the next stage of his career.
Hansen reflected positively on his time at Brøndby, expressing gratitude to players, staff, employees, and supporters, and describing the club as a unique place that made a strong impression on him. He said the opportunity to coach at national team level is a challenge he is ready to embrace after many years in club football.
His departure adds to a broader reshuffle at Brøndby. On Friday, the club parted ways with head coach Steve Cooper and assistant Alan Tate, leaving vacancies to be filled ahead of the new season. This transition period at Brøndby IF marks a significant moment in the club’s history as they seek to solidify their position in the Superliga and develop future talents for Danish football.
As Hansen embarks on this new journey, the emphasis on youth development within the Danish Football Association signifies a commitment to nurturing the next generation of players. His extensive experience and insights gained at Brøndby will undoubtedly influence his approach to coaching the U20 team.
The evolution of Brøndby IF continues as they adjust to these changes, with the hope of finding new leadership that can inspire and guide the team through the upcoming challenges in the league.
