Hjalte Bo Nørregaard is leaving his role as assistant coach at FC Copenhagen to become head coach of Esbjerg fB in the Danish 1st Division. The 45-year-old’s move was announced on September 23, 2026.
Nørregaard’s Journey with FC Copenhagen
Nørregaard has longstanding ties to FC Copenhagen and KB, spanning his playing and coaching careers. He made 320 appearances for the club as a player and is widely remembered for a decisive title-winning goal in 2003, an achievement fans highlighted again with a large tifo over the weekend.
Alongside his playing career, he progressed through FC Copenhagen’s coaching pathway. He completed his coaching education within the FCK Talent setup, led several youth teams, and briefly served as interim head coach for the first team in three matches in autumn 2020. He has been part of the senior coaching staff as an assistant since 2022.
FC Copenhagen acknowledged his significant contribution on and off the pitch and expressed support for his decision to take on a senior head coach role elsewhere, noting the club’s tradition of developing coaches and wishing him and his family well.
Nørregaard described the timing as the right moment for a new challenge after spending more than half his life at the club. He reflected on a career filled with highs and lows, titles, and strong team bonds, and considered the recent fan tribute a fitting close to this chapter. He said the club is moving in a positive direction but that he is ready to apply his experience in a new environment, and he thanked those who have supported him throughout his time at FC Copenhagen.
As Nørregaard embarks on this new journey with Esbjerg fB, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how he will implement his vision and strategies in the Danish 1st Division. His deep-rooted experience in coaching and his understanding of the game will undoubtedly play a significant role in his future success.
