Humbert and Bergs ready for the final at the Lexus Eastbourne Open

Ugo Humbert and Zizou Bergs made headlines on Friday by knocking out home favorites at the Eastbourne Open, setting the stage for an exciting final. This ATP 250 grass-court tournament has seen some intense matches, culminating in Humbert and Bergs vying for the title.

Humbert Advances to the Final

Sixth seed Ugo Humbert marked his 28th birthday in style by defeating Jack Draper with a score of 7-5, 6-3. This victory not only celebrates his special day but also signifies Humbert’s entry into his 12th tour-level final. Currently ranked No. 30 in the world, he is on the hunt for his second grass title, having previously triumphed in Halle back in 2021. Notably, Humbert becomes the first French men’s singles finalist at the Eastbourne Open since 2017, when Gael Monfils finished as the runner-up to Novak Djokovic. After this semi-final loss, Jack Draper, who was making his return from a knee injury, is now focused on his upcoming first-round match against Taylor Fritz at Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, Zizou Bergs showcased incredible resilience by rallying past British lucky loser Toby Samuel. The match ended with Bergs taking the victory 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Samuel had a chance to serve for the match at 5-4 in the second set, but Bergs turned the tide and controlled the final set to seal the match after two hours and seven minutes of play. Despite arriving at the tournament on a six-match skid, Bergs has made it to the final with only one set dropped, and he is eager to claim his first tour-level trophy after previous runner-up finishes in Auckland and ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2025.

As Humbert and Bergs prepare to clash for the title in Eastbourne, fans are also looking forward to their upcoming first-round meeting at Wimbledon next week. On a positive note, despite the semi-final defeat, Toby Samuel’s impressive run has propelled him up 19 places to No. 123 in the live rankings, marking a significant achievement as he secured his first tour-level victories during the tournament.
