Jannik Sinner has pulled out of the Cincinnati Open because of a right knee problem, the tournament said on Sunday.
Sinner explained that after discussions with his doctors and team, he is not ready to compete despite recent treatment and rehab. He expressed disappointment about missing the Masters 1000 event, saying he hopes to return next year, and is turning his attention to preparing for the US Open.
Sinner’s Recent Achievements and Future Aspirations
The Italian last played at Wimbledon, where he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final to claim his fifth Grand Slam title, extending his head-to-head lead over the German to 11-4. Earlier this season, Sinner won the first five ATP Masters 1000 events, finishing that run in Rome and becoming, alongside Novak Djokovic, just the second player to complete the Career Golden Masters.
Sinner owns a 12-4 career record in Cincinnati, including the title in 2024. His withdrawal comes after Carlos Alcaraz also stepped out of the event as he continues to recover from a wrist injury that has kept him out since April.
The Cincinnati Open main draw runs from August 13 to August 23, with Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic among the leading names expected to play.
