Jonas Vingegaard is celebrated in Rome at the conclusion of the Giro d’Italia

file-393

Rome is set to once again host the Giro d’Italia’s grand finale, welcoming the race for the fourth consecutive year with a celebratory run through its historic streets. This iconic event will not only salute the riders who have reached the end of the race but will also confirm Jonas Vingegaard in the pink jersey as he aims to secure his victory and decide the final day’s stage winner.

Giro d’Italia Final Stage Overview

The 131 km route begins in the EUR district and heads out to the picturesque coast at Ostia for the intermediate sprint before returning to central Rome. The closing circuit measures 9.5 km and will be tackled eight times, taking riders past some of the city’s most famous landmarks, including the Colosseum, Via dei Fori Imperiali, Piazza Venezia, and the Lungotevere, culminating in a thrilling finish on Viale del Circo Massimo.

A sprint finish appears to be the most likely outcome, though the Rome circuit can reward late attackers if the sprinters’ teams hesitate. With a straightforward finale, raw speed is expected to be the decisive factor. The battle is anticipated to center on Jonathan Milan from Lidl–Trek and Paul Magnier of Soudal Quick-Step. Magnier has impressively won all three previous bunch sprints at this Giro, while Milan returns to Rome with the aim of redemption after facing a puncture on the last lap two years ago. Additionally, Edoardo Zambanini from Bahrain Victorious, who recently finished third in Pieve di Soligo, and Corbin Strong from NSN Cycling Team are also strong contenders for the final stage.
