Earlier in the tournament, China’s Buyunchaokete and Roman Safiullin came through three-set battles to set up a quarterfinal meeting. Buyunchaokete upset eighth seed Kamil Machrzak 7-6(4), 6-7(5), 6-2. Having started the week with one tour-level win this season, he has already added two more in Hangzhou. Meanwhile, Safiullin, ranked No. 102, rallied past fourth seed Quentin Halys 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in their first tour-level meeting, completing the job in two hours and 17 minutes.
