Nicolai Vallys transfers from Brøndby IF to FC Tokyo after four successful seasons

Nicolai Vallys is leaving Brøndby IF after four seasons to join FC Tokyo in Japan’s J-League. The 29-year-old attacking player departs as one of the club’s most influential figures in recent years.

Vallys’s Impact at Brøndby IF

Vallys arrived on the western outskirts of Copenhagen in the summer of 2022 and quickly became a standout in the 3F Superliga. He made 126 appearances for Brøndby, collecting several individual honors along the way, including Superliga Player of the Year and Brøndby’s Player of the Year as chosen by the club’s volunteers.

Brøndby’s football director, Julius Ohnesorge, said Vallys contributed far beyond goals and assists, helping define the standards expected of a Brøndby player. He highlighted Vallys’s impact on and off the pitch, his authenticity, and his willingness to take responsibility during both strong and challenging periods. The club sends him off with respect and best wishes for the next stage of his career.

Ohnesorge also noted that when Vallys extended his contract last year, there was an understanding that the past season could be his last in the blue-and-yellow. The parties have now agreed on a move that suits everyone and gives Vallys the chance to test himself in a new culture and a competitive league.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Vallys expressed deep gratitude for four years that exceeded his expectations. He emphasized the support he felt from fans and the strong relationships he built, saying the sense of belonging and the experiences he gained would stay with him. He arrived hoping to make a difference on the field and did not anticipate how much the club and its community would come to mean to him. He hopes supporters recognized how much wearing the yellow shirt meant to him.

During his Brøndby career, Vallys played 126 matches, scoring 36 goals and providing 27 assists. He now moves to FC Tokyo to continue his career in Japan, where he aims to make an equally significant impact in the J-League.
