The NHL’s all-time regular-season goals leader took part in the event’s shooting challenge, sending pucks from various distances into a small five-hole target at the bottom center of the net. He even converted a shot despite another puck blocking part of the path. Afterward, he moved to a 360-degree drone camera station, lifted a replica Stanley Cup overhead, and recorded footage, a nod to his 2018 championship season that also earned him the Conn Smythe Trophy.
Ovechkin’s Impressive Career Highlights
Ovechkin’s appearance comes after he signed a one-year contract on July 1 to return for a 22nd NHL season. The 40-year-old showed durability and impact last season, leading Washington with 64 points and appearing in every regular-season game. He holds 929 regular-season goals and climbed past Wayne Gretzky’s 894 on April 6, 2025, with his 895th goal against the New York Islanders.
He also leads NHL history in power-play goals (331), game-winners (141), overtime goals (27), empty-net goals (72), and in the number of 30-goal seasons (20), 40-goal seasons (14), and 50-goal seasons (nine, tied with Gretzky and Mike Bossy). He has won the Rocket Richard Trophy nine times and ranks 10th all time with 1,686 points in 1,572 regular-season games.
With 10 more goals this season, Ovechkin would move past Gretzky for the most combined regular-season and playoff goals. He currently has 1,006 combined goals, including 77 in the postseason; Gretzky finished with 1,016.
