FC Midtjylland’s women had their winning streak unexpectedly halted in a match against OB Q in Odense, where they suffered a 3-1 defeat, largely due to a stellar performance from Rebekka Winther, who netted a hat-trick.
Match Overview
The encounter at Nature Energy Park began in a scrappy fashion, but the home side quickly gained momentum around the 10-minute mark. OB took the lead in the 12th minute after a deflected effort from Winther found its way into the net. Midtjylland responded with their first shot on target from Rikke Dybdahl in the 19th minute and began to assemble a more cohesive attack, pressing and creating several half-chances. Their best opportunity of the first half arrived in the 27th minute when a cross from Clara Jepsen narrowly eluded both Ida-Sofie Rathe and Mathilde Kaihøj in front of goal.
OB Q capitalized on Midtjylland’s missed opportunities just before halftime. Winther showcased her scoring prowess by pouncing on a loose ball in the box to double the lead to 2-0 in the 43rd minute.
Following the halftime break, OB intercepted a pass during Midtjylland’s build-up play, allowing Winther to complete her hat-trick with a powerful finish in the 51st minute. The visitors reacted swiftly; Rathe struck the underside of the crossbar, and Kaihøj’s follow-up header was cleared off the line. A subsequent goal from Kaihøj was ruled out for offside, but Midtjylland continued to apply pressure. In the 63rd minute, Kaihøj tested the goalkeeper after winning the ball in the area, and a minute later, Hannah Fruensgaard hit the inside of the post. Another effort from Midtjylland was later disallowed for offside.
Finally, in the 75th minute, Midtjylland’s efforts bore fruit. Fruensgaard won a midfield duel during a counterattack, releasing Nana Munk into space, who squared the ball for Maria Herdel to pull one back for the visitors. Despite their relentless pressure, Midtjylland could not close the gap further, marking their first defeat of the spring season.
