Sønderjyske Fodbold and Holstein Kiel strengthen youth football in the border region with a new partnership

Sønderjyske Fodbold and Holstein Kiel have formed a partnership to strengthen and further develop children’s football in the Danish-German border region. The agreement is described as an important step in Sønderjyske’s work on improving youth environments.

Enhancing Youth Football Development

The collaboration will focus on youth, children, and grassroots football for age groups U9 to U13. In the Flensburg area, the clubs will offer joint development training sessions for children from both sides of the border, led by qualified coaches. The aim is to support young players at all levels.

Sønderjyske has worked for several years on football development in the border region, with the Border Academy playing a central role. The academy will continue in its current form and remain an open, inclusive program for children in the area.

The partnership also includes joint coaching courses and knowledge-sharing between staff from both clubs to generate new ideas for training and for the development of both players and coaches. This initiative is expected to create a more robust framework for fostering talent and enhancing skills in young athletes.

Holstein Kiel’s academy head called Sønderjyske a strong partner and noted that the clubs share a view on modern youth development. He highlighted the U9–U13 years as crucial for laying the foundations of both sporting and personal growth and said the cooperation aims to advance this work together at an international level.

Sønderjyske’s academy head expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Holstein Kiel on children’s football in the border area. With the Border Academy as a foundation, the focus will remain on enjoyment, community, and positive experiences regardless of ability. Through the partnership, the clubs plan to add expertise, exchange experiences, and expand both existing and new initiatives so more children across the region can benefit from football.

This partnership not only aims to enhance the skill levels of young players but also promotes a sense of community and teamwork among children from different backgrounds. As the collaboration unfolds, it is expected to set a precedent for future initiatives in youth football development across borders.
