Superliga team loses two friendlies in Austria, but the head coach remains positive about the future

The Superliga squad recently completed two preseason matches at their summer camp in Austria on July 10, both of which ended in defeats. Despite the results, these matches served as valuable learning experiences for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Match Summaries and Coaching Insights

In the first match, the squad faced Czech side Hradec Kralove. The team struggled initially, trailing 3-0 at halftime. Although the second half saw improvements, where the team managed to keep their opponents from adding to their tally, they could not find the back of the net themselves. The match concluded with a score of 3-0 in favor of Hradec Kralove.

Later in the day, the Superliga squad took on Poland’s Gornik Zabrze, last season’s runners-up, who are gearing up for Champions League qualifying against Fenerbahce. Gornik Zabrze established an early lead, going up 2-0 before the break, and maintained that scoreline until the final whistle.

Head coach Jens Fønsskov Olsen acknowledged that the day’s schedule was intentionally challenging. He expressed that the first game held promise initially, but a physically demanding and man-oriented approach from Hradec Kralove created difficulties during a tough half-hour spell. He noted improvements in the second half, where the team created several decent opportunities that unfortunately went unfinished. In the match against Gornik, Olsen recognized the Polish side’s readiness as they are close to their league kickoff, while his own team fell short of their potential.

Despite the defeats, Olsen highlighted a positive aspect of the matches: the opportunity to give substantial playing time to many young players. He emphasized that these preseason games are crucial for clarifying the squad dynamics as competitive fixtures approach. The experiences gained during these matches will be instrumental as the team looks to refine their strategies and build cohesion ahead of the new season.

Overall, while the results were disappointing, the Superliga squad is focused on the positives moving forward and aims to learn from these experiences as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
