Esbjerg fB is set to honor military veterans and their families during the upcoming Veteran Match, scheduled for Saturday’s home game against AaB at the iconic Blue Water Arena. This significant event is part of a nationwide initiative that aims to recognize the contributions of those who have served in the military.
Recognizing the Contributions of Veterans
In collaboration with the Danish Sports Confederation (DIF), clubs within the 3F Superliga and Betinia LIGA are coming together to shed light on the sacrifices made by men and women who have served overseas. The initiative also seeks to raise awareness about the lasting impacts that military deployments can have on veterans upon their return home.
On match day, veterans and their families will be invited as special guests to the stadium, creating a sense of community and appreciation. The leadership of Esbjerg fB emphasizes that the Veteran Match is not just a game; it’s a cherished tradition that reflects the club’s commitment to recognizing the sacrifices made by service members. DIF officials highlight that coordinated efforts across Danish sports can significantly benefit former service members and their families.
During the match, Esbjerg players Nicklas Strunck and Sander Strand will proudly wear jerseys adorned with the Veteran Match logo. These unique shirts will be auctioned off during and after the game, with all proceeds directed towards DIF’s Soldaterprojekt initiatives, specifically the “Safe Zones” and “Family Zones.” These programs are vital as they provide support and training communities for veterans and police officers living with physical and psychological injuries, along with their loved ones.
For those who have previously served, the Veteran Match program offers free tickets to the game, allowing them to enjoy this special event alongside their families. The match is set to kick off on Saturday, 10 October, at 13:30 at Blue Water Arena, and it promises to be a memorable occasion for all involved.
