Lyngby Boldklub and the Municipality Launch Youth Program for Personal Development

Lyngby Boldklub and Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality have introduced Startskuddet, a six-week program that blends sport, community, and personal development for young people aged 12 to 18. Participants meet once a week to try different activities, meet new peers, and build confidence and practical skills they can use in everyday life.

Empowering Youth Through Community and Sport

The municipality describes the initiative as preventive. The goal is to reach young people before serious well-being problems take hold, including low motivation for school, difficulty joining social groups, or even school refusal. The program also aims to counter loneliness and strengthen self-understanding so participants feel more ready to take part in communities.

While sport is the setting, performance is not the main focus. A dedicated bridge-builder helps create a safe space where differences are welcomed and difficult topics can be discussed. The approach emphasizes what each participant already does well and how those strengths can be developed further.

Activities are used as a path to personal growth. By testing new sports, the young people experience both challenges and small wins that reveal new sides of themselves. A recent boxing session, for example, gave a struggling participant a clear sense of achievement. These moments are used to prompt reflection, show that everyone faces obstacles, and practice coping strategies that help participants understand their own reactions and resources.

The project is supported by local partners IFF, Hempel, J.Jensen, and Magasin, whose backing helps provide the framework needed to run a program where sport, community, and personal development go hand in hand.

By the end of the six weeks, organizers want participants to leave with tools, experiences, and competencies that last beyond the course. That may include greater self-belief, new friendships, and the confidence to join communities that once felt out of reach. The hope is that these gains also show up in school life and daily routines, leading to meaningful friendships, healthy hobbies, and improved motivation.

Early signs point to progress, with new relationships forming and a positive atmosphere developing as participants are challenged both physically and personally. Over the longer term, the aim is to see young people finish Startskuddet with more curiosity about the world, stronger self-confidence, and a steadier everyday life with a clear sense of belonging.

Startskuddet is designed to be more than a short-term course. It is intended as a launchpad that gives young people a timely push toward lasting change, fostering a supportive community that empowers them to thrive.
